Don’t get the club stuck behind you!! We see many amateurs whipping the club back too far on the inside in the first part of the back swing, which creates a very flat plane and back swing. The problem with this action is that the club is now stuck in a position where the player can only make the downswing by swinging right over the top. Swinging over the top cause’s slices, pulls, pull hooks and fats. Does this sound like you? Then try this simple but effective drill and see how it improves your strikes and ball flight. Setup to a ball and then put an alignment stick in the ground, in line with the laces of your shoes about 3 feet behind you. Now make your back swing and avoid hitting the alignment stick that is in the ground. This should get your back swing more up - right and on a better plane. From there you should feel like you have plenty of room to make your down swing without having to come right over the top, to make contact with the ball. Your ball flight should straighten up and the strike will improve. |
