We hope you managed to celebrate Easter weekend in some way, shape or form – especially, with an Easter Egg or two. This week’s newsletter is packed with some great features that we think you’ll enjoy. Our weekly quiz continues, there are more drills and challenges for you to try at home, as well as a brilliant video at the bottom of this email. To kick things off, I would like to introduce you to my new PGA Assistant Professional Pete Blacker. Pete is a great addition to the pro shop team. Pete has written a small about himself below... I started playing golf 8 years ago where I was a junior at Wrangaton Golf Club and currently play off a handicap of 2, although I will lose that handicap when I turn Professional and undertake the PGA degree later this year. |

I love golf because there are always ways to improve as there are so many different skills within the game of golf, for example, bunker play, driving and pitching. Secondly, golf allows people of all ages and abilities to play with each other, whether in a competitive match or just a friendly round with friends. My greatest achievement in golf was winning the Club Championships at Wrangaton Golf Club in 2019 with rounds of 70 and 71. This was particularly special to me as it was my last chance to win it before turning Professional. I have also had 2 holes in ones, the first on the 7th at Bigbury and the second on the 14th at Wrangaton. Finally, my best ever round was a gross 67 last year at Wrangaton. |

Over that past 3 years, I have completed a degree in Business Management at Plymouth University which should help too in my role as Assistant Professional at Elfordleigh and help me to complete some of the aspects of the PGA degree. The PGA degree is a 3-year foundation degree on Professional Golf Studies and covers a range of topics such as coaching, custom fitting, golf retailing, sports science, equipment technology and business finance. The aspect of the course I am most looking forward to is the coaching, as one of the main reasons I decided to turn Professional was to pursue a career in coaching. One of my main goals at Elfordleigh will be to grow the junior section by offering weekly coaching sessions, as this will be a great way to help young golfers improve, whilst helping to develop my coaching experience. I also aim to run Get Into Golf sessions to introduce as many beginners as possible to the game of golf. Finally, I would like to get to know and try to play with as many members as possible, so if you fancy a round just let me know! In the meantime, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all when we re-open. |

Golf's greatest rivalries
|
Over the next few weeks, we’re going to discuss some of the game’s greatest rivalries but would love you to get involved too! So, let us know which rivalry stands out for you the most and why by getting in touch here. Nicklaus vs Palmer
A lot of you will remember this one and it’s for far more than the fact they were the two best players on tour for most of the 60s. It was trophies galore for both gentlemen, with nine Major titles between them from 1960 to 1964 and one of them winning the PGA Tour’s money list each year between 1962 and 1965. However, whilst Jack is recognised by many as the greatest of all time (let’s save the Tiger vs Jack debate for another time!), he didn’t have the love of the fans that Arnie had. If you read up on the pair’s rivalry, you’ll quickly find out that they were close friends too. From travelling together during their playing days to Nicklaus being by Palmer’s side when his wife sadly passed away, their friendship was a strong as their fierce rivalry on the course. |
What a response to last week's quiz! Hopefully, you all enjoyed it and learnt a thing or two on the way. For this week, you'll need to match the golfer with their nickname. It starts relatively easy with a few that we think the majority of you will get, but there are certainly a few curveballs in there that you may have never heard of before! Click the link below to take part and, remember, have fun!
