Golf on Tour

Hatton's happy homecoming

Tyrrell Hatton sealed a fantastic victory at Wentworth in the BMW PGA Championship over the weekend.

The Englishman played some outstanding golf from tee-to-green, setting up birdie chances aplenty thanks to a near-perfect ball-striking display. Finding the right part of the green was key to Hatton's success over the weekend, which saw him enter the World's Top 10 for the very first time.

One of the slightly more unusual talking points from the weekend was Hatton's clothing; more specifically his hoodies. It seems to have people split and, whilst it won't be to everyone's taste, we'd love to hear your thoughts - send us a message below.

Club news

Great scoring and great cause!

It was great to see so many of you supporting the Crohns and Colitis Charity Day last Saturday with over 90 golfers playing in the competition.

There were some great scores from Andy Williams with 45 points and Andy Gorton with 44 points! A total of £800 was raised for the charity which is a fantastic amount.

A big thanks to Don Metters and Phil Johns for organising the day.

Pro’s Weekly Tip

This week’s tip is about improving your course management when playing par 5s. After hitting your drive, consider what your favourite yardage for an approach shot is and aim to leave yourself that for your shot into the green.

Sometimes, being aggressive with your second shot and hitting more club than necessary can get you into trouble or leave yourself with an awkward approach shot. Therefore, by leaving a yardage into the green that you are most comfortable with, you will be more likely to reduce your scores.

This can also be applied to long par 4’s where the hole may be too long to reach the green in two or if you need to get back in position after a poor tee shot.

Kitted-out for the course

How do you prepare for a round of golf in the winter? Extra stretches? Hit a few balls on the range to get the blood pumping? A cup of coffee in the clubhouse? Whatever it is you do, playing in colder weather requires a bit more prep so here are a few things to consider...

Extra Layer

If there’s a chill in the air, don’t shy away from a base-layer. If you’re not sure how the weather will pan out, it’s good to pack a mid-layer for added warmth or even a waterproof if you think it might rain.

Mitts

Hands are a pretty important part of golf (if you hadn’t noticed!), so be sure to keep yours warm between shots so that you don’t get uncomfortable or lose your grip. Do we need to remind you of the pain caused when you thin a shot in the cold?

Hat

You can lose a lot of body heat from your head, and summer caps aren’t always the most efficient, so keep a warm hat in your bag just in case the temperate drops.
