The Masters

Augusta looms

Masters week is an exciting time for any avid golfer.

It's when we get to watch our favourite golfers battle it out on one of the most iconic courses in the world. Flowers in full bloom, an array of beautiful colours, and a course in pristine condition year-after-year.

Augusta National is a special place, so we thought we'd run through some of the standout Masters memories ahead of next week's showdown.

Sunday Shifts

In 1996, Greg Norman turned a six-stroke Sunday lead into a five-stroke loss to Nick Faldo. In 1978, Gary Player started the final round eight strokes behind before shooting the lowest-ever final round (64) at Augusta to claim the Green Jacket!

Fighting Spirit

Tiger’s incredible 2019 comeback win springs to mind, but Ben Hogan recovered from a terrible car crash in 1949 to win The Masters by five strokes in 1953. Ben Crenshaw’s 1995 victory came in the same week as the funeral of long-time instructor Harvey Penick. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Postponed for now...

The Winter League was postponed for this week due to bad weather and course conditions. This week will be added to the end of the Winter League schedule to allow everyone to play the full amount of games.

The club between your ears...

This week’s tip is about improving the mental part of your game when playing on the golf course. Adopting a more positive attitude after you have hit a poor shot can help you to control your emotions.

When you hit a shot that is less than satisfactory, it is important to put the shot behind you and begin to think how you can recover and put yourself back into position.

It is impossible to change shots in the past and limiting your reaction to a bad shot will help to eliminate any further poor decisions and ultimately lower your scores.

Driving in the wind

If there’s one positive that’s come out of tournaments without fans, it’s hearing more of the players’ conversations. Hearing players talking to their caddies pre-shot can be both confusing and fascinating, but you can certainly pick up some gems on the way!

Check the wind

You might’ve plucked a blade of grass and thrown it in the air to check the wind, but do you take into account both the direction and speed? Let's focus on how the wind impacts driving the ball for a moment.

Change your tee height

The image above is a little simplistic but you get the idea. When you’re playing downwind, 'tee it high and watch it fly'. However, when battling the breeze, try teeing the ball lower to keep it under the wind.
